Righteous Emmelia, mother of Saints Basil the Great, Gregory of Nyssa, Peter of Sebaste and Makrina.
Emmelia was born in Cappadocia to a Christian family that had suffered in the persecutions and married Basil the Elder, a rhetorician. Of their ten children, four are numbered among the saints: Basil the Great, Gregory of Nyssa, Peter of Sebaste and Makrina the Younger.
After her husband's death she lived in prayer with her daughter Makrina on their estate at Annesi and reposed around 375. Greek women named Aimilia keep their name-day on her feast.
