Malachi the Prophet

Holy Prophet Malachi, last of the twelve minor prophets.

The Holy Prophet Malachi is the last of the twelve minor prophets of the Old Testament. His name means messenger of the Lord, and his book, written after the return from the Babylonian captivity, calls the priests and people back to faithful worship.

He foretold the coming of the Forerunner and the day of the Lord. He is commemorated on January 3.

On the New Calendar, Malachi the Prophet is commemorated on January 3. Churches on the Old (Julian) Calendar keep the feast on January 16 of the civil calendar.
