Peter the Peloponnesian

New Martyr Peter of the Peloponnese, martyred for Christ in the eighteenth century.

St. Peter the Peloponnesian, a New Martyr, came from Tripolitsa in the Peloponnese. Tradition relates that after being pressed to deny his faith, he confessed Christ openly before the Turkish authorities and was put to death in the eighteenth century, in Temesvar according to the synaxaria.

He is numbered among the New Martyrs of the Turkish period and is commemorated on January 1.

On the New Calendar, Peter the Peloponnesian is commemorated on January 1. Churches on the Old (Julian) Calendar keep the feast on January 14 of the civil calendar.
