Commemoration of the shepherds who saw the Lord in Bethlehem.
The Church remembers the shepherds who were keeping watch over their flocks by night when the angel announced to them the birth of the Saviour. They came in haste to Bethlehem, found the Child lying in the manger, and returned glorifying God.

On the New Calendar, Shepherds of Bethlehem is commemorated on December 25. Churches on the Old (Julian) Calendar keep the feast on January 7 of the civil calendar.
