Holy Martyr Tarcisius, the young acolyte who died protecting the Holy Gifts.
Saint Tarcisius was a young acolyte of the Church of Rome in the third century. Tradition relates that while carrying the Holy Eucharist to imprisoned Christians he was set upon by a pagan mob and beaten to death rather than surrender the Holy Gifts.
He is honoured as a martyr of the Eucharist.
Feast day
On the New Calendar, Tarcisius of Rome is commemorated on August 15. Churches on the Old (Julian) Calendar keep the feast on August 28 of the civil calendar.
