Aaron the Prophet

Holy Prophet Aaron, brother of Moses and first high priest of Israel.

The holy prophet Aaron was the elder brother of Moses and his spokesman before Pharaoh, and by God's command he was consecrated the first high priest of Israel. His rod that budded was kept in the Ark of the Covenant, and the Church sees in it a figure of the Mother of God.

He died on Mount Hor before the entry into the Promised Land. The Greek synaxarion keeps his memory on March 12.

Feast day

On the New Calendar, Aaron the Prophet is commemorated on March 12. Churches on the Old (Julian) Calendar keep the feast on March 25 of the civil calendar.
