Holy New Martyr Abbakoum, who suffered at Thessaloniki.
Saint Abbakoum was a monk from Mount Athos who confessed Christ openly before the Ottoman authorities in Thessaloniki. Tradition relates that he went to his martyrdom with joy on the feast of the Transfiguration.
He is honoured among the New Martyrs of the Church.
Feast day
On the New Calendar, Abbakoum the New Martyr is commemorated on August 6. Churches on the Old (Julian) Calendar keep the feast on August 19 of the civil calendar.
