The Holy Transfiguration of our Lord and God and Saviour Jesus Christ.
The Great Feast of the Transfiguration commemorates the day Christ led Peter, James, and John up Mount Tabor and was transfigured before them. His face shone like the sun, His garments became white as light, Moses and Elijah appeared speaking with Him, and the voice of the Father declared Him the beloved Son.
The feast, kept on August 6 in the midst of the Dormition Fast, reveals the uncreated light of the divinity of Christ and the glory to which the human person is called. In Greek tradition the first grapes of the harvest are brought to church on this day to be blessed.
