Akakios of Melitene

Saint Akakios the Confessor, Bishop of Melitene.

March 31

St. Akakios was Bishop of Melitene in Armenia in the third century. During the persecution of Decius he was arrested and brought before the governor, whom he answered with such wisdom that the emperor, on reading the record of the trial, ordered his release.

He returned to his flock and reposed in peace, honored as a confessor. His memory is kept on March 31.

April 18

Akakios was Bishop of Melitene in Armenia in the fifth century and took part in the Third Ecumenical Council at Ephesus, where he opposed the teaching of Nestorius. He was known for his gift of working wonders and his care for his flock.

He reposed in peace and was buried at Melitene.
