Alexandra of Alexandria

Venerable Alexandra of Alexandria, who lived enclosed in a tomb.

St. Alexandra was a virgin of Alexandria in the fourth century who, in order to avoid being a cause of temptation to a young man, shut herself in a tomb and lived there for many years in prayer, receiving food through a small opening. Her story is told by Palladius in the Lausiac History.

She reposed in peace, and the Church honors her on March 3.
