Hesychios

Holy Martyr Hesychios of Antioch.

St. Hesychios was a martyr of Antioch who suffered during the Roman persecutions of the early fourth century. Tradition remembers him as a man of rank who, when the emperor demanded that Christians in imperial service deny their faith or lose their honors, laid aside his dignities rather than deny Christ, and was put to death for his confession.

The synaxaria preserve little else of his life, but his choice of Christ over every earthly honor has kept his memory alive in the Church. He is commemorated on March 3.

On the New Calendar, Hesychios is commemorated on March 3. Churches on the Old (Julian) Calendar keep the feast on March 16 of the civil calendar.
