The monastery of the Archangel Michael Panormitis on Symi in the Dodecanese is one of the most famous places of pilgrimage in Greece. Its wonderworking icon of the Archangel draws pilgrims from across the islands and the seafaring communities.
On the feast of the Synaxis of the Archangels the monastery holds its great festival, and sailors traditionally bring offerings in thanksgiving for protection at sea.
