Olga of Alaska

Saint Olga of Kwethluk, Alaska, the Yup'ik midwife and matushka glorified in 2024.

Saint Olga Michael was a Yup'ik woman of Kwethluk, Alaska, wife of the village priest and a midwife. She lived a hidden life of prayer, generosity to the poor and quiet care for women and children in her community, and reposed in 1979.

After her death many faithful reported her help, especially for those who had suffered abuse. She was glorified by the Orthodox Church in America in 2024 and is the first Yup'ik woman among the saints.

Feast day

On the New Calendar, Olga of Alaska is commemorated on November 8. Churches on the Old (Julian) Calendar keep the feast on November 21 of the civil calendar.
