Cedd of Lastingham

St. Cedd, missionary bishop of the East Saxons.

St. Cedd was a monk of Lindisfarne in the seventh century, one of four brothers who became priests. He preached the Gospel among the Middle Angles and the East Saxons, was consecrated bishop, and founded the monastery of Lastingham in Yorkshire.

He reposed of the plague in 664 and is commemorated on January 7.
