Deposition of the Belt of the Theotokos

Placing of the Honourable Belt of the Most Holy Theotokos in the Church of Chalkoprateia.

The Church commemorates the placing of the Belt of the Theotokos in the Church of Chalkoprateia in Constantinople. Tradition relates that the Belt was later laid upon the Empress Zoe, who was healed of a grave illness.

A portion of the Belt is kept today at the Monastery of Vatopedi on Mount Athos.

Feast day

On the New Calendar, Deposition of the Belt of the Theotokos is commemorated on August 31. Churches on the Old (Julian) Calendar keep the feast on September 13 of the civil calendar.
