Dionysios the New, Archbishop of Aegina, patron of Zakynthos.
Dionysios was born on Zakynthos in 1547 to a noble family and became a monk on the Strofades islands. Made Archbishop of Aegina, he soon resigned his see and returned to his island, where he lived in humility at the monastery of the Theotokos at Anafonitria.
He is remembered above all for forgiving and sheltering the man who had killed his own brother. He reposed in 1622, and his incorrupt relics are venerated in Zakynthos, whose patron he is.

On the New Calendar, Dionysios of Zakynthos is commemorated on December 17. Churches on the Old (Julian) Calendar keep the feast on December 30 of the civil calendar.
