Patermuthius, Copres and Alexander

Venerable Martyrs Patermuthius and Copres, and the Martyr Alexander, in Egypt.

The venerable Patermuthius and Copres were monks of Egypt who confessed Christ before Julian the Apostate. Tradition relates that Copres wavered for a moment and was restored by the prayers of Patermuthius, and that the soldier Alexander, seeing their steadfastness, believed. All three were put to death.

Feast day

On the New Calendar, Patermuthius, Copres and Alexander is commemorated on December 17. Churches on the Old (Julian) Calendar keep the feast on December 30 of the civil calendar.
