Erasmus of the Kiev Caves

Venerable Erasmus of the Kiev Near Caves.

St. Erasmus was a monk of the Kiev Caves who spent his entire fortune on the adornment of the monastery church. Later tempted by despair over his lost wealth, he fell ill, but was consoled by a vision of the Theotokos assuring him that his offering was accepted.

He repented, received the great schema and reposed in peace in the twelfth century.

On the New Calendar, Erasmus of the Kiev Caves is commemorated on February 24. Churches on the Old (Julian) Calendar keep the feast on March 9 (a day earlier in leap years) of the civil calendar.
