Flight into Egypt

The flight of the Holy Family into Egypt.

On the day after the Nativity the Church remembers how Joseph, warned by an angel, took the Child and His Mother and fled into Egypt from the wrath of Herod, and remained there until the death of the king, that the word of the prophet might be fulfilled: Out of Egypt have I called My Son.

Feast day

On the New Calendar, Flight into Egypt is commemorated on December 26. Churches on the Old (Julian) Calendar keep the feast on January 8 of the civil calendar.
