Gregory of Grigoriou

Venerable Gregory, founder of the Monastery of Grigoriou on Mount Athos.

Venerable Gregory was a hesychast of the fourteenth century, a disciple of the Sinaite tradition of prayer, who founded the monastery on the south-west coast of Mount Athos that bears his name. He is honoured by the brotherhood of Grigoriou as its founder and heavenly patron.

Feast day

On the New Calendar, Gregory of Grigoriou is commemorated on December 7. Churches on the Old (Julian) Calendar keep the feast on December 20 of the civil calendar.
