Hieronymos of Simonopetra

Venerable Hieronymos of Simonopetra, elder of Mount Athos and Athens.

Hieronymos was born in Cappadocia in 1871 and became a monk at the Monastery of Simonos Petra on Mount Athos. Sent to serve at the monastery's dependency of the Ascension in Athens, he spent decades there as confessor and spiritual father to countless people.

He was known for his humility, his gift of discernment and his love for the poor. He reposed in 1957 and was glorified by the Ecumenical Patriarchate.
