John Arnaoutogiannis

New Martyr John the Dragatis, called Arnaoutogiannis.

John, nicknamed Arnaoutogiannis, was a Greek field-guard (dragatis) who, tradition relates, was falsely accused before the Turkish authorities and pressed to change his faith. Refusing, he was put to death for Christ.

He is counted among the New Martyrs of the Ottoman period and commemorated on May 19.
