Joseph the Sanctified of Samakos

Venerable Joseph the Sanctified of Samakos in Crete, remembered on the placing of his relics.

Saint Joseph was born in Crete and became a monk, serving as abbot near Heraklion and caring for the poor and the sick. He reposed in the early sixteenth century and his relics were later carried to Zakynthos, where they are venerated.

His principal feast is on the twenty-second of January.

On the New Calendar, Joseph the Sanctified of Samakos is commemorated on August 29. Churches on the Old (Julian) Calendar keep the feast on September 11 of the civil calendar.
