Holy Martyr Juliana of Nicomedia.
The holy martyr Juliana was a young Christian of Nicomedia who suffered in the persecutions at the beginning of the fourth century. Betrothed to a pagan of rank, she refused to marry him unless he came to Christ, and for her confession she endured imprisonment and cruel tortures with unshaken constancy before being put to death by the sword.
Her courage moved many who witnessed her sufferings to believe, and the Church honors her among the brave virgin martyrs of Nicomedia. She is commemorated on December 21.
