Seraphim of Vyritsa

Venerable Seraphim of Vyritsa, elder and wonderworker of Russia.

St. Seraphim of Vyritsa was born in 1866 and was a successful merchant in St. Petersburg before he and his wife entered monastic life. He became the spiritual father of the Alexander Nevsky Lavra and, after its closure, lived at Vyritsa near St. Petersburg, where he received countless visitors and prayed for Russia through the years of persecution and war.

He reposed in 1949 and was glorified by the Russian Church in 2000. His memory is kept on March 21.

On the New Calendar, Seraphim of Vyritsa is commemorated on March 21. Churches on the Old (Julian) Calendar keep the feast on April 3 of the civil calendar.
