Venerable Xanthippe and Polyxene, sisters of Spain, disciples of the Apostles.
Sts. Xanthippe and Polyxene were sisters of Spain in the apostolic age. Tradition relates that Xanthippe, wife of a governor, received the faith from the Apostle Paul when he preached in Spain, and that Polyxene, carried off to the East, was baptized by the Apostle Andrew and returned to Spain with the Apostle Onesimos.
They lived in virginity and prayer to the end of their lives and are commemorated together on September 23, a name day for Polyxeni.

On the New Calendar, Xanthippe and Polyxene is commemorated on September 23. Churches on the Old (Julian) Calendar keep the feast on October 6 of the civil calendar.
