  Ignatius the God-Bearer

  Hierarch, Ιγνάτιος Θεοφόρος

  The holy hieromartyr Ignatius the God-Bearer was Bishop of Antioch in the generation after the Apostles, a disciple of the apostolic age who shepherded one of the great churches of the early world. Condemned under the emperor Trajan, he was taken in bonds to Rome, and on the journey wrote seven epistles that remain among the treasures of the early Church, begging the faithful not to hinder his martyrdom; he was given to the wild beasts in the arena.

• Philogonius of Antioch

  Hierarch, Φιλογόνιος

  Philogonius was a married lawyer of Antioch who was chosen bishop of the city for his holiness in the early fourth century. He suffered in the last persecutions, stood against the beginnings of the Arian heresy, and reposed in peace in 324. St. John Chrysostom delivered a homily in his honour.

• John the Tailor of Thasos

  Martyr, Ιωάννης ο ράφτης εκ Θάσου

  The new martyr John was a young tailor from the island of Thasos working in Constantinople. Falsely accused before the Turkish authorities, he refused to embrace Islam and was beheaded in 1652.

• John of Kronstadt

  Saint, Ιωάννης της Κρονστάνδης

  Righteous John of Kronstadt was a Russian parish priest who served for more than fifty years at the cathedral of Kronstadt near St. Petersburg. Celebrating the Divine Liturgy daily, he was famed throughout Russia for his prayer, his charity to the poor, and the healings worked through him.

• Ignatius of the Kiev Caves

  Venerable, Ιγνάτιος της Λαύρας των Σπηλαίων

  Venerable Ignatius was archimandrite of the Kiev Caves Lavra in the fifteenth century. Known for his prayer and for the healings granted through the Holy Gifts he offered, he reposed in peace, and his relics rest in the Far Caves.
