The saints behind the name

Ignatios the God-Bearer
January 29, Hierarch, Ιγνάτιος
St. Ignatios the God-Bearer was Bishop of Antioch and one of the apostolic fathers, a disciple of the apostles themselves. Condemned under the Emperor Trajan at the beginning of the second century, he was taken in bonds to Rome and given to the wild beasts in the arena, going to his death with joy, longing, as he wrote, to be ground as the wheat of God.

Ignatius the God-Bearer
December 20, Hierarch, Ιγνάτιος Θεοφόρος
The holy hieromartyr Ignatius the God-Bearer was Bishop of Antioch in the generation after the Apostles, a disciple of the apostolic age who shepherded one of the great churches of the early world. Condemned under the emperor Trajan, he was taken in bonds to Rome, and on the journey wrote seven epistles that remain among the treasures of the early Church, begging the faithful not to hinder his martyrdom; he was given to the wild beasts in the arena.

What to say on a name day
The Greek wish is Χρόνια Πολλά (Chronia Polla), “many years.” A call or a short message on the day is what people remember. See name day wishes you can send and what a name day is.
