John the Tailor of Thasos

New Martyr John the Tailor of Thasos, martyred in Constantinople.

The new martyr John was a young tailor from the island of Thasos working in Constantinople. Falsely accused before the Turkish authorities, he refused to embrace Islam and was beheaded in 1652.

On the New Calendar, John the Tailor of Thasos is commemorated on December 20. Churches on the Old (Julian) Calendar keep the feast on January 2 of the civil calendar.
