  Nicholas the Wonderworker

  Hierarch, Νικόλαος ο Θαυματουργός

  St. Nicholas the Wonderworker, Archbishop of Myra in Lycia, lived in the fourth century and is one of the most beloved saints of the Church. Renowned for secret almsgiving — according to tradition he saved three daughters of a poor man from ruin by gifts of gold given at night — he was a defender of the innocent and of the true faith in the age of the First Ecumenical Council.

• Nicholas Karamanos

  Martyr, Νικόλαος Καραμάνος

  The new martyr Nicholas Karamanos was a Christian of Smyrna who, according to tradition, was accused before the Turkish authorities and pressed to embrace Islam. He held fast to Christ and was hanged in Smyrna in 1657.

• Antony of Siya

  Venerable, Αντώνιος ο εν Σιήσκω

  Venerable Antony was born in the region of Novgorod in the fifteenth century and, after the death of his wife, became a monk. He founded a monastery on the river Siya in the far north of Russia, where he laboured in great austerity and was known as a wonderworker. He reposed in peace in 1556.

• Nilus of Stolbensk

  Venerable, Νείλος της Στολοβνόε

  Venerable Nilus was a Russian hermit of the sixteenth century who lived alone on the island of Stolobny in Lake Seliger. Tradition relates that he never lay down to sleep, resting only on hooks fixed to the wall of his cell. He reposed in peace in 1554, and a great monastery later arose at the place of his labours.
