Venerable Nilus, hermit of Stolobny island on Lake Seliger.
Venerable Nilus was a Russian hermit of the sixteenth century who lived alone on the island of Stolobny in Lake Seliger. Tradition relates that he never lay down to sleep, resting only on hooks fixed to the wall of his cell. He reposed in peace in 1554, and a great monastery later arose at the place of his labours.

On the New Calendar, Nilus of Stolbensk is commemorated on December 6. Churches on the Old (Julian) Calendar keep the feast on December 19 of the civil calendar.
