Abdaios of Persia

Hieromartyr Abdaios, bishop in Persia.

St. Abdaios was a bishop in Persia in the fifth century, under King Yazdegerd. Refusing to worship the sun and fire as the Persians demanded, he was beaten with thorny rods and died of his wounds, giving thanks to God.

He is commemorated on September 5.

On the New Calendar, Abdaios of Persia is commemorated on September 5. Churches on the Old (Julian) Calendar keep the feast on September 18 of the civil calendar.
