Medimnos, Urban, Theodore and the 77 with them

Holy Martyrs Medimnos, Urban, Theodore and eighty clergy of Constantinople burned at sea under the Arian emperor Valens.

The holy martyrs Medimnos, Urban and Theodore, with some eighty priests and deacons of Constantinople, went to the Arian emperor Valens to plead for the Orthodox who were being persecuted. The emperor ordered them put aboard a ship, which was set on fire at sea, and all perished in the flames near Nicomedia.

They are commemorated on September 5.

On the New Calendar, Medimnos, Urban, Theodore and the 77 with them is commemorated on September 5. Churches on the Old (Julian) Calendar keep the feast on September 18 of the civil calendar.
