Agapios of Kolitsou

Venerable Agapios of the Skete of Kolitsou on Mount Athos, with his four disciples.

St. Agapios was a monk of the skete of Kolitsou, near Vatopedi on Mount Athos, in the fifteenth century. Tradition relates that he was carried off by pirates and held as a slave for many years, and that he was miraculously freed by the Mother of God and returned to his elder, who sent him back to convert his former master.

His master and his sons received baptism and became monks with him on the Holy Mountain. The Church honors them together on March 15 and on March 1.

Feast day

On the New Calendar, Agapios of Kolitsou is commemorated on March 15. Churches on the Old (Julian) Calendar keep the feast on March 28 of the civil calendar.
