Holy Martyr Alexander of Thessaloniki, who suffered under Maximian.
Saint Alexander was a Christian of Thessaloniki during the reign of Maximian. Tradition relates that when the emperor was offering sacrifice he overturned the altar, refusing to worship idols.
He was beheaded for his confession and is honoured as one of the martyrs of Thessaloniki.
Feast day
On the New Calendar, Alexander of Thessaloniki is commemorated on November 7. Churches on the Old (Julian) Calendar keep the feast on November 20 of the civil calendar.
