• Lazaros of Mount Galesion

  Venerable, Λάζαρος

  Venerable Lazaros of Mount Galesion was an ascetic of the eleventh century who, after years of pilgrimage and monastic labor in the Holy Land, settled on Mount Galesion near Ephesus. There he took up the harsh discipline of the stylites, living upon a pillar in prayer and fasting, and a community of monks gathered around him under his direction.

• Thirty-Three Martyrs of Melitene

  Martyr, Άγιοι Τριάντα Τρεις Μάρτυρες εν Μελιτινή

  Saint Hieron was a farmer of Tyana in Cappadocia who was conscripted into the army under Diocletian. When he and his companions refused to sacrifice to idols they were imprisoned at Melitene.

  Saints Melasippus and Kasine were a Christian couple of Ancyra who, with their young son Antoninus, were arrested under Julian the Apostate. The parents were tortured to death before the eyes of their son, who then confessed Christ himself and was beheaded.

  Saint Thessalonica was a Christian woman of Amphipolis in Macedonia who, according to tradition, was driven from her home by her pagan father for her faith. Auctus and Taurion, moved by her confession, believed in Christ and were martyred.

  Saint Athenodoros is honoured as a martyr in the Church's calendar. Some sources identify him with the brother of Saint Gregory the Wonderworker, though this is uncertain.

• Alexander of Thessaloniki

  Martyr, Αλέξανδρος ο εκ Θεσσαλονίκης

  Saint Alexander was a Christian of Thessaloniki during the reign of Maximian. Tradition relates that when the emperor was offering sacrifice he overturned the altar, refusing to worship idols.
