  Paul the Confessor

  Hierarch, Παύλος ο Ομολογητής

  St. Paul the Confessor was Archbishop of Constantinople in the fourth century, in the years when the Arian heresy was upheld by the powerful. A firm defender of the Nicene faith, he was driven from his see repeatedly by Arian opponents and finally exiled to a remote place, where he was put to death by those who hated his orthodoxy.

• Demetrianos of Kythrea

  Hierarch, Δημητριανός Κηθηρίας

  Saint Demetrianos was born in Cyprus in the ninth century. After the death of his young wife he became a monk, and later was consecrated Bishop of Kythrea, where he was known for his gentleness and works of mercy.

• Barlaam of Khutyn

  Venerable, Βαρλαάμ ο εν Χουτινή

  Venerable Barlaam was born in Novgorod in the twelfth century and, after the death of his parents, became a monk and settled at Khutyn on the Volkhov river, where he founded a monastery dedicated to the Transfiguration.

• Luke of Sicily

  Venerable, Λουκάς ο Όσιος

  Venerable Luke was a monk of Sicily who lived in the ninth century. Tradition relates that he left the world as a young man, laboured in several monasteries and eventually became abbot, guiding many in the ascetic life.

• Paul the Fool-for-Christ

  Venerable, Παύλος ο διά Χριστόν σαλός

  Venerable Paul lived as a fool for Christ, hiding his ascetic life beneath apparent madness. Tradition places him at Corinth and relates that he bore mockery and abuse with patience while secretly practising prayer and fasting.

• Luke the Steward of the Kiev Caves

  Venerable, Λουκάς ο εν Σπηλαίω

  Venerable Luke was a monk of the Kiev Caves Lavra who served as steward of the monastery in the thirteenth century. His relics rest in the Far Caves.
