Holy Apostle Ananias of the Seventy, first Bishop of Damascus, who baptized the Apostle Paul.
Ananias was a disciple living in Damascus when the Lord sent him to the blinded Saul of Tarsus. Laying his hands on him, he restored Saul's sight and baptized him, as recounted in the Acts of the Apostles.
Tradition numbers him among the Seventy Apostles and names him the first Bishop of Damascus. He preached in Damascus and Eleutheropolis, where he is said to have ended his life as a martyr.
