Ananias the Persian

Holy Martyr Ananias of Persia.

The holy martyr Ananias suffered for Christ in Persia. Brought before the pagan authorities and commanded to worship the sun and fire, he confessed Christ and was cruelly beaten and tormented.

Tradition relates that he was strengthened by a heavenly vision in the midst of his sufferings and so gave up his soul to God.

Feast day

On the New Calendar, Ananias the Persian is commemorated on December 1. Churches on the Old (Julian) Calendar keep the feast on December 14 of the civil calendar.
