Holy Martyr Andrew Stratelates.
St. Andrew Stratelates was a commander in the Roman army in the East at the end of the third century. Calling on the name of Christ, he led his soldiers to victory, and confessed openly the faith that had given it; many of his men believed with him and were baptized.
Denounced during the persecution of Maximian, he and a great company of his fellow soldiers withdrew to the mountains of Cilicia, where they were overtaken and slain, receiving together the crown of martyrdom. He is commemorated on August 19.
