Theophanes the New of Naousa

Venerable Theophanes the New, wonderworker of Naousa in Macedonia.

Saint Theophanes was born in Ioannina and became a monk on Mount Athos, where he served as abbot of Docheiariou. He later settled near Naousa in Macedonia and founded a monastery there.

He reposed in the sixteenth century and is the patron saint of Naousa.

Feast day

On the New Calendar, Theophanes the New of Naousa is commemorated on August 19. Churches on the Old (Julian) Calendar keep the feast on September 1 of the civil calendar.
