Bademus of Persia

Holy Monk-Martyr Bademus, archimandrite in Persia, with seven of his disciples.

Bademus was born to a wealthy family in Persia and, giving away his possessions, founded a monastery near Bethlapat, gathering disciples around him. In the persecution of King Shapur he was imprisoned with seven of his monks.

Tradition relates that a Christian nobleman who had apostatized was ordered to kill him, and struck him many blows before he died. He is honoured among the martyrs of Persia of the fourth century.

On the New Calendar, Bademus of Persia is commemorated on April 9. Churches on the Old (Julian) Calendar keep the feast on April 22 of the civil calendar.
