• Eudemos

  Martyr, Εύδημος

  St. Eudemos is remembered among the martyrs of the early Church, one who confessed Christ in the time of the persecutions and sealed his faith with suffering. The synaxaria preserve little of his life beyond this faithful witness.

• Raphael, Nicholas and Irene of Lesbos

  Martyr, Ραφαήλ, Νικόλαος και Ειρήνη

  Raphael, an archimandrite, and his deacon Nicholas were living at the monastery of Karyes near Thermi on Lesbos when the Turks attacked in 1463, ten years after the fall of Constantinople. With them was the twelve-year-old Irene, daughter of the village elder, and others who had taken refuge there.

• Eupsychios of Caesarea

  Martyr, Ευψύχιος

  Eupsychios was a young Christian of Caesarea in Cappadocia, newly married, when the emperor Julian the Apostate sought to restore pagan worship. With other Christians he took part in the destruction of a pagan temple in the city.

• Bademus of Persia

  Martyr, Βάδιμος

  Bademus was born to a wealthy family in Persia and, giving away his possessions, founded a monastery near Bethlapat, gathering disciples around him. In the persecution of King Shapur he was imprisoned with seven of his monks.

• Abdiesus and the Martyrs of Persia

  Saint, Αβδιησούς και οι συν αυτώ

  Abdiesus was among a great company of Christians, clergy and laity, taken captive in the Persian wars and held in Persia during the persecution of King Shapur. When they refused to worship the sun they were put to death together.

• Acacius of Amida

  Hierarch, Ακάκιος Αμίδης

  Acacius was Bishop of Amida in Mesopotamia in the fifth century. When thousands of Persian prisoners of war were dying of hunger, he sold the gold and silver vessels of his church to feed them and send them home.
