Saint Callistus I, Patriarch of Constantinople, hesychast of Mount Athos and disciple of Saint Gregory of Sinai.
Saint Callistus was a monk of Mount Athos and a disciple of Saint Gregory of Sinai. He became patriarch of Constantinople in 1350 and again in 1355, presided over the council that confirmed the teaching of Saint Gregory Palamas, and wrote lives of the saints and spiritual works. He reposed in Serres in 1363 while on an embassy to the Serbs.
