Saint Nicholas Cabasilas of Thessaloniki, lay theologian and author of The Life in Christ.
Saint Nicholas Cabasilas was born in Thessaloniki around 1322, a nephew of Archbishop Neilos Cabasilas. A learned layman close to the emperor John Kantakouzenos, he wrote The Life in Christ and the Commentary on the Divine Liturgy, works of great depth on the sacraments.
He was a friend of the hesychasts and of Saint Gregory Palamas, and he reposed at the end of the fourteenth century. He was formally numbered among the saints in 1983.

On the New Calendar, Nicholas Cabasilas is commemorated on June 20. Churches on the Old (Julian) Calendar keep the feast on July 3 of the civil calendar.
