Cyprian of Kiev and Moscow

St. Cyprian, Metropolitan of Kiev and Moscow, Athonite and hesychast.

St. Cyprian was born at Tarnovo in Bulgaria in the fourteenth century and lived as a monk on Mount Athos and at Constantinople, a disciple of the hesychast Patriarch Philotheos. Sent as metropolitan to Kiev and later received in Moscow, he labored to unite the Russian Church and enriched it with liturgical translations and hesychast teaching.

He reposed in 1406 and is commemorated on September 16.

On the New Calendar, Cyprian of Kiev and Moscow is commemorated on September 16. Churches on the Old (Julian) Calendar keep the feast on September 29 of the civil calendar.
