Cyril of Turov

Saint Cyril, Bishop of Turov, preacher and hymnographer of the Russian land.

Cyril was born in Turov in the twelfth century and became a monk, living for a time as a stylite. Chosen bishop of his native city, he became famous for his sermons and prayers, which earned him the name of the Russian Chrysostom.

He reposed in peace toward the end of the twelfth century.

On the New Calendar, Cyril of Turov is commemorated on April 28. Churches on the Old (Julian) Calendar keep the feast on May 11 of the civil calendar.
