Venerable Elias of Murom, wonderworker of the Kiev Near Caves.
Venerable Elias of Murom was, according to tradition, the mighty warrior of the Russian epics who at the end of his life became a monk of the Kiev Caves Lavra in the twelfth century. His relics rest in the Near Caves, and he is honoured as a wonderworker.
Feast day
On the New Calendar, Elias of Murom is commemorated on December 19. Churches on the Old (Julian) Calendar keep the feast on January 1 of the civil calendar.
