Gregory of Pelshma

Venerable Gregory of Pelshma, abbot and wonderworker of Vologda.

St. Gregory was born of a noble family of Galich and, giving his inheritance to the poor, became a monk and later a disciple of St. Dionysius of Glushitsa. He founded a monastery on the river Pelshma in the Vologda forests and was known for rebuking princes who oppressed the people.

He reposed in 1442 and is commemorated on September 30.

Feast day

On the New Calendar, Gregory of Pelshma is commemorated on September 30. Churches on the Old (Julian) Calendar keep the feast on October 13 of the civil calendar.
