Holy Virgin Martyrs Rhipsime, Gaiane and their thirty-two companions, martyred in Armenia.
St. Rhipsime was a Roman virgin of great beauty who fled with her abbess Gaiane and their companions to Armenia to escape the emperor Diocletian. The Armenian king Tiridates sought her for himself and, refused, had her and her companions put to death with great cruelty around the year 300.
Tradition relates that the king was afterward struck with madness and healed by St. Gregory the Illuminator, and so Armenia came to Christ. They are commemorated with St. Gregory on September 30.

On the New Calendar, Rhipsime, Gaiane and the Virgin Martyrs of Armenia is commemorated on September 30. Churches on the Old (Julian) Calendar keep the feast on October 13 of the civil calendar.
